Bermuda
buttercup brightens my garden
in the
winter and spring, but it must be planted in a well contained
area. It is a
weed.
The yellow flowers close at night and
open again
in the morning.
In the heat of the day, the leaves
fold
together.
When you pull this weed out, you think
you
got the long tap root. But if you dig carefully, you find
that it was really a stem coming from a deeply buried bulb.
Digging further, you find that the tap
root below the bulb goes down to an enlarged tuber.
The tuber may be as large as a small
carrot. Now you know why this weed is difficult to eradicate.
