The giant bird of
paradise flower was a frequent weed in my
garden, until the neighbors cut theirs down. I let some grow for
a couple of years, but they are just too big.
Here is a closer look at
flowers of the giant bird of
paradise which are in better condition than the flowers
in the picture above. They are much larger, but not nearly so
pretty as the smaller bird of paradise flowers.
This shows how the leaves
coming off opposite sides of the
stem form a flattened "trunk". These leaves are 6-8 feet long.
