The California fan palm, also known as the Washington palm, is the only palm tree native to California. It is found naturally in desert canyons. Here we see it grown as a street tree.

These are the seeds of the California fan palm. Birds drop these under the utility wires in my yard.






 

The sprouts of the California and Mexican fan palms are small and not easy to distinguish.
