The California poppy
in all its brilliant, florescent color
is a common garden flower in this area. Not only is it native to
the
state, but it is the state flower of California.
These flowers make
quite a show, especially when massed.
But no garden can equal multiple acres of a desert hillside
glowing
burnished gold with millions of poppies.
The poppies close up
for the night. In the lower right
is a bud slipping its cap, ready to open tomorrow. Both far right
and
far left are the long narrow capsules, the fruit of the poppy.
