Sometimes
when I'm careless, a patch of crabgrass will take over a corner of my
lawn. It likes to move into the garden as well, with long runners
that send down roots any where a node touches bare earth.
Large crabgrass is a fast growing,
wide spreading,
coarse grass. The nightmare of suburban, monoculture lawn
enthusiasts. It spoils the looks of fine lawns. And it has
become the type of all weeds for the comics.
These are the flowers of the
crabgrass. Most
people don't think of flowers on grass. They are quite small and
since they are pollinated by wind, they don't have to look or smell
good.
